Ode aan het wiel
Het wiel is een belangrijk symbool. Het staat voor het verstrijken van de tijd maar is ook een van de belangrijkste uitvindingen van de mens die aan de basis stond van de ontwikkeling van onze samenleving en welvaart. Het wiel heeft ons veel voorspoed gebracht. Zonder deze uitvinding zouden bijvoorbeeld onze polders niet zijn leeggepompt en was het lastig geweest goederen te takelen naar de bovense verdiepingen van onze amsterdamse grachtenpanden, om van de uitvinding van de fiets nog maar niet te spreken.

Zeven wielen van licht steken half uit het water van de gracht uit en lijken met verschillende snelheden rond te draaien. De weerspiegeling in het water completeerd de hele cirkel. Hoe sneller het licht rond gaat des te meer water wordt er direct aan de oppervlakte in beweging gebracht. Een ballet van draaiende circels van licht volgens een vaste choreografie.
Technical principle
Lucht en licht worden bestuurd met Max MSP software vanuit een centrale computer met phigets (I/O boards) die zich op de kade bevinden. In de waterdichte kunsstof circels worden led groepen met laagspanning aangestuurd. Snelheid, richting en intensiteit zijn te regelen vanuit dit programma evenals de lucht compressor die de bellen produceerd onder iedere cirkel. De cirkels zijn bevestigd op drijvende pontons net onder het wateroppervlak die met ankers op hun plaats worden gehouden. Wij hebben als duo ruime ervaring met kunstwerken in de openbare ruimte, waarbij licht en techniek worden gebruikt.

Tribute to the wheel
The wheel is an important symbol. It represents the passage of time but is also one of the most important inventions of man standing at the base of the development of our society. The wheel has brought us much prosperity. Without this invention our polders would not have been drained and it would have been difficult to haul goods to the top floors of the Amsterdam’s canal houses, and what about the invention of the bicycle?
Visitor experience
Seven wheels of light stabbing half out of the water surface appear to be rotating at different speeds. The reflection in the water completes the whole circle. The faster the light circles the more water is brought into motion.

Technical principle
Air and light are being driven with MSP Max software from a central computer using i-o boards that are all located on the waterside. In the waterproof circles led groups are controlled and lit by low voltage. Speed, direction and intensity are being controlled from a computer program, as well as the air compressor that produces the bubbles under each circle. The circles are mounted on floating platforms just below the water surface, and held in place with anchors. We have extensive experience as a duo with works of art in public space, where light and technique are used.
